    Proteas U19s bounce back

Dayyaan Galiem, man of the match Proteas U19s bounce back
    Published on July 14, 2015 | Leave a response

South Africa’s Under-19s bounced back with a comprehensive 34-run win to keep alive their hopes of salvaging the seven-match ODI series.

A 94-run partnership between Wiaan Mulder (56) and Dayyaan Galiem (42) was the backbone of a solid score of 183-6 in 38 overs in a match reduced due to rain at the start.

The Young Proteas now trail 2-3, and will need to win all the remaining two games in Durban to turn complete a remarkable turnaround.

South Africa were invited to bat and were looking good at 73-1; but then they lost three wickets for 12 runs. Both Mulder and Galiem attacked vigorously, with Mulder scoring nine fours off 51 balls and Galiem three fours and six off 39.

The bowlers then stepped up the plate, knocking over the first six wickets for 48 before the Bangladeshis fought back with an 80-run stand between captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz (67) and Mosabbek Hossain (40). But once that was broken, there was little left in support.

Galiem was outstanding, taking 1-8 off five overs to earn the man of the match award.

The hosts made a tough call at the start, changing five players: Willie Luddick, Matthew Breetzke (both on debut), Lutho Sipamla, Sean Whitehead and Kabelo Sekhukhune came in for Dean Foxcroft, Kyle Verryenne, Conor McKerr, Brandon Glover and Aaqil Ebrahim.
