    Kiwis in race against time

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson Kiwis in race against time
    Published on March 27, 2017 | Leave a response

New Zealand have to show more urgency on day four if they’re to avoid drawing the third Test and losing the series.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson scored 148 not out on day three in Hamilton.  He received good support from Jeet Raval, and the hosts ended the day with a seven-run lead.

DAY THREE REPORT: Williamson puts New Zealand in the lead

Whether New Zealand have done enough to take control of this contest is another story. Time is running out for the hosts to force a result in this Test. The Kiwis need to win in Hamilton to draw the series.

In the context of the series, the Proteas remain well-placed. They should look to contain and frustrate the New Zealand batsmen early on day four. This should force the hosts to take risks in an attempt to score quickly and amass an imposing first-innings lead.

It will be interesting to see when the Black Caps declare (assuming that South Africa don’t bowl them out). Showers are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, and so time to force a result in this Test is running out.

SA 314 (1st innings) – Quinton de Kock 90, Faf du Plessis 53, Matt Henry 4-93, Neil Wagner 3-104
NZ 321-4 (1st innings) – Kane Williamson 148 not out, Jeet Raval 88, Tom Latham 50, Morné Morkel 2-74
New Zealand lead by 7 runs
