    Proteas search for killer blow

Kagiso Rabada Proteas search for killer blow
    Published on October 8, 2017 | Leave a response

The Proteas need 10 more wickets to win the Test in Bloemfontein and clinch the series 2-0.

Bangladesh look set to sustain yet another heavy defeat at the hands of the Proteas. Indeed, the game in Bloemfontein may well be over before the close of play on day three.

On Saturday, Bangladesh crumbled to 147 all out in response to South Africa’s imposing 573-4 declared. Faf du Plessis enforced the follow-on with the hope of claiming one or two more Bangladesh wickets before the close, but play was abandoned eight balls into the visitors’ second innings due to bad light.

ANALYSIS: It’s ‘only ‘ Bangladesh but give Proteas credit

Bangladesh will be hard-pressed to survive day three. Fair weather is forecast and the Proteas should have a full allotment of overs to claim the 10 wickets needed to win the game, and the series. Bangladesh were bowled out inside 43 overs on day two.

Kagiso Rabada may view this as an opportunity to claim his third 10-for in Test cricket. Rabada took 5-33 in Bangladesh’s first innings – a haul that included the key wickets of openers Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar.

SA 573-4 declared (1st innings) – Aiden Markam 143, Faf du Plessis 135 not out, Hashim Amla 132, Dean Elgar 113
    Bangladesh 147 (1st innings) – Liton Das 70, Kagiso Rabada 5-33, Duanne Olivier 3-40
    Bangladesh 7-0 (2nd innings) –
    Bangladesh trail by 419 runs
