The 282-run partnership between Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla against Bangladesh is our Play of the Day.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat in the first ODI in Kimberley. Thanks to the efforts of Mushfiqur Rahim (110 not out off 116 balls) they went on to post 278-7 in their allotted 50 overs.

The Proteas – who boasted several big-hitting batsmen in their lineup – were always going to be favourites to win the game from there. That said, the manner in which they dominated was unprecedented.

REPORT: De Kock, Amla torture Tigers

The hosts went on to claim a 10-wicket victory against the outclassed Tigers. De Kock finished on 168 not out and Amla on 110 not out.

Together, De Kock and Amla put on 282 runs for the first wicket. After smashing the records for the most runs scored by a Proteas opening pair against Bangladesh (155) and at the Diamond Oval (128), De Kock and Amla broke the all-time South African ODI partnership record of 256.
