    August downs Boland with four-for

Clayton August of Easterns August downs Boland with four-for
    Published on October 5, 2018 | Leave a response

Clayton August was at his destructive best for Easterns against Boland as the seasoned left-hander picked up 4-31 in the first innings to reach 200 first-class wickets in the CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup match at Benoni, writes ANITHA MADIKIZELA.

August was a man on a mission as he ripped through the Boland middle-order in a stunning spell of accurate and deadly pace bowling. After winning the toss and electing to field first, Easterns opened the bowling with August, who quickly got rid of Boland’s number three Simon Khomari for just four runs. He then returned to the attack to bowl wicketkeeper-batsman Hanno Kotze for 27 off 63 balls, captain Ferisco Adams (18 off 27 balls) and finally Curtley Louw for a single.

August finished with figures of 4-31 (including four maidens) from his 14 overs.

The young bowler – who had made his debut at first-class level representing Boland – was at the core of their collapse as they were bowled out for 186 inside 49 overs. August’s innings efforts lifted him to the incredible landmark of 200 first-class wickets in 76 matches.

Easterns took command of the match by posting 245 in their first innings to gain a useful 59-run lead, after which they made inroads into Boland’s top-order in their second innings, picking up three wickets for 50 in 14 overs. Boland recovered from their disastrous start to reach 270-7 at the close, giving them an overnight lead of 216 runs with three wickets in hand.
