Colin Ingram hammered a magnificent 70 off 46 balls (4×4, 4×6), but it was all in vain as Glamorgan went down by 16 runs to Essex in the Natwest Blast T20.

Shaun Tait (3-33) and Ravi Bopara (3-25) crushed the Glamorgan tail as they chased a target of 188 to win. Earlier in the innings, Jacques Rudolph had gone after contributing just three runs to the second-innings stand of 30 runs with Ingram after Craig Meschede had been bowled for 0 three balls into the innings. Chris Cooke managed just 14 and Wayne Parnell went without scoring as Glamorgans were bowled out for 171.

Essex made merry in their innings, in which on Meschede was able to contain the batsmen, taking 1-27. Parnell conceded nine an over and Rudolph even brought himself on, giving up 14 runs in his single over.

Johann Myburgh anchored a Somerset innings which chased down Gloucestershire’s target of 165.

He scored a dominating 63 off 50 balls (9×4), which stands out particularly proudly when considering that no other Somerset batsman passed 27.

He and Aussie James Allenby (27) put on 44 in 4.2 overs for the first wicket and Myburgh went through the powerplay with 59 on the board, which in essence broke the back of the chase.

Wickets fell at regular intervals but Myburgh remained until as late as the 18th over when he was brilliantly caught off the left-arm spin of Tom Smith.

Earlier Alfonso Thomas took 2-42 off three overs as Gloucestershire put on 165-8

Rory Kleinveldt took 2-29 as Northants beat Lancashire by four runs in their Natwest blast T20. The first of those was the in-form Ashwell Prince, who went for 11 as his team tried to chase the not-so-demanding 169-5. Richard Levi had added 17 off 14 balls to that score.
