    Knights tie in last-over drama

Senuran Muthusamy Knights tie in last-over drama
    Published on January 14, 2018 | Leave a response

A bizarre last over, which saw two wickets fall for 13 runs, condemned the struggling Knights to their second tied match of the One-Day Cup tournament.

Duanne Olivier was entrusted with the last over, when the Dolphins needed 14 to win, bowling to Robbie Frylinck, whose successive sixes off the last two balls edged out the Cobras last Wednesday.

He looked set to repeat that when he smashed two sixes off Olivier, and a wide delivery left the match tied with two balls to go. Frylinck was dismissed going for the winning run and then Prenelan Subrayen was adjudged to have obstructed the field as he tried to sneak though.

The Dolphins had struggled to match the Knight’s 233-9 in Bloemfontein until Senuran Muthusamy (68 off 89), batting at No 6, had anchored a lower-order charge, in which the Dolphins advanced from 59-4 to 233-9. Andile Phelukwayo contributed 30, Frylinck 33 and Subrayen 21.

Earlier, in a similar scenario, the Knights struggled to their 233-9 despite the openers, Rudi Second (66) and Grant Mokoena (32), putting on 67 in 11 overs for the first wicket. Thereafter, the Knights could not build partnerships, although Patrick Kruger, at No 5, attempted to marshal the tail, scoring 59 off 68.

The Knights, struggling at the foot of the log, tied their match against the Lions in early January. They have yet to win a match from their five outings.

The Dolphins now top the log on 21 points followed by the Titans on 19 and the Cape Cobras on 18. All  have played six matches.
