Andile Phehlukwayo’s crucial spell on day one at the Wanderers is our Play of the Day.

All five of the Proteas’ seamers took wickets as the hosts dismissed India for 187. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the lot, finishing with figures of 3-39.

That said, it was Phehlukwayo who made a key breakthrough after tea. The Proteas managed to take three wickets in the space of 12 balls and destroy India’s chances of posting a big score.

DAY ONE REPORT: Lukewarm Proteas still too hot for India

Cheteshwar Pujara was at the crease for more than two sessions, and took 173 balls to score a half-century. Shortly after reaching that milestone, the India No 4 batsman was undone by a Phehlukwayo delivery that shaped away and caught the edge of the bat.

Phehlukwayo succeeded where the more seasoned South Africa bowlers had failed. Pujara had finally been dismissed. His vigil lasted for more than four hours.

Morne Morkel removed Parthiv Patel thereafter. In the following over, Hardik Pandya tried to take on Phehlukwayo, but only succeeded in presenting Quinton de Kock with yet another catch.
