Maharaj gets Zim in a spin

Keshav Maharaj in action Maharaj gets Zim in a spin

Keshav Maharaj’s performance of 5-59 at St George’s Park is our Play of the Day.

South Africa thrashed Zimbabwe by an innings and 120 runs in the one-off Test in Port Elizabeth. The inaugural four-day, day-night Test concluded before the end of the second session on the second day.

    REPORT: Potent Proteas destroy Zimbabwe

Aiden Markram (125) starred with the bat on a slow wicket at St George’s Park. Morné Morkel ripped through the Zimbabwe top-order on day one, and finished with first-innings figures of 5-21.

Keshav Maharaj stole the show on day two, though. Denied an opportunity to bowl in the first innings, Maharaj made the most of his chance in the second dig.

The off-spinner claimed the key wicket of Brendan Taylor midway through the second session. A bit of luck was involved, though, with Taylor edging the ball onto his pad. The ensuing catch by Hashim Amla, however, is worthy of a Play of the Day accolade itself.

Maharaj continued to hit the right areas and turn the ball away from the right-hand batsmen. He finished with figures of 5-59.

After 14 Tests, Maharaj now has 56 wickets and three five-fors to his name.
