    Rain delays play at Newlands

Rain on day three at Newlands Newlands
    Published on January 7, 2018 | Leave a response

The start of day three at Newlands has been delayed significantly due to rain.

We’re unlikely to see much cricket – if any – at Newlands today. It was still raining at 14:30 and the covers were still on the pitch.

Proteas captain Faf du Plessis and coach Ottis Gibson were seen talking to the ground staff shortly after lunch. At 13:15, the ground staff removed some of the covers to drain the excess water.

Unfortunately, the covers were returned to their previous position soon afterwards.

At this stage, it remains unclear when play will resume.

SA 286 (1st innings) – AB de Villiers 65, Faf du Plessis 62, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4-87, Ravi Ashwin 2-21
    India 209 (1st innings) – Hardik Pandya 93, Cheteshwar Pujara 26, Vernon Philander 3-33, Kagiso Rabada 3-34
    SA  65-2 (2nd innings) – Aiden Markram 34, Dean Elgar 25, Hardik Pandya 2-17
South Africa lead by 142 runs
