The Proteas look set to post a first-innings total in excess of 500 on day two of the Test against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom.
Bangladesh will come to regret putting South Africa in to bat on a flat track at Senwes Park. The Proteas – through Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram and Hashim Amla – made the most of the opportunity, scoring 298 for the loss of just one wicket on day one.
The platform has been set for a gargantuan first-innings total. The Proteas must be favourites to post 500 or more from here.
ANALYSIS: Proteas look to bat just once
Elgar and Amla have already put on 102 runs for the second wicket. Elgar needs 13 more runs to surpass his highest Test score of 140.
Amla should be looking to crack on and reach the three-figure mark. South Africa’s premier batsman hasn’t scored a Test century in 15 innings, although he came close on three occasions on the recent tour to England.
There’s a chance that play will be disrupted by rain later in the day. The weather is unlikely to influence the result of this contest, though.
