Rory Kleinveldt hit superb form with a Man of the Match performance for Northamptonshire, which ended in a two-run victory over Worcestershire in the English T20 Blast on Friday night
Northants were in the balance at 131-7 after 17 overs (Richard Levi 19 off 11) when Kleinveldt came to the crease and slammed 42 off 12 balls with six sixes. The eighth-wicket stand with Aussie Steven Crook thrashed 62 before Kleinveldt was caught on the straight boundary from the last ball of the innings.
Kleinveldt led the next phase with the first-ball dismissal of Moeen Ali as Worcs were held to 191-6 in a brave attempt to extend a three-match winning run. He added another down the line to end with 2-25 off his four overs.
Based on a solid opening stand of 76 between Jason Roy and Dean Elgar, Surrey pulled off a remarkable 19-run win over Jacques Rudolph‘s Glamorgan.
Dean contributed 20 off 22 balls on a difficult surface before holing out in the 10th over, but the Durban-born England slammer Roy went on to 61 off 47 (3×4, 3×6)
But Glamorgan put the brakes on, thanks in part to Colin Ingram taking 2-20 off four overs, and Wayne Parnell 0-18 off three, restricting Surrey to 146-8.
It was more than enough once Azhar Mahmood got going, taking three of the five wickets to fall for 46. The Saffa Cartel of Craig Meschede 31 (off 27), Jacques Rudolph (9), Colin Ingram (0) and Chris Cooke (1), and it was left to Parnell to top-score with 24 off 21 in the lower order to give the score some respectability.
Johann Myburgh scored 53 off 45 balls in an opening stand of 118 with Jim Allenby (89) as Somerset brushed aside the Middlesex challenge of 171 to win by nine wickets. Earlier Tim Groenewald had taken 3-27, including Nick Compton for 10,and Alfonso Thomas 0-36.
Lancashire would have been confident after they held Warwickshire to 137 – which included Brendon McCullum, who managed only 18 off 14. But they collapsed spectacularly. Opener Ashwell Prince, playing his second game in as many nights, had only 11 when he was dismissed, cutting to point immediately after slamming a six.
On Thursday night, he oversaw a six-wicket victory over Durham with a to score of 63 off 51 balls.
Rikki Wessels put up a forlorn resistance, hammering 66 off 33 balls (9×4, 3×6) as Nottinghamshire went down by 34 runs to Derbyshire. He had to go for it, chasing 201, but had little support.
